The front cover of the Winter Issue featuring Roberta Hall McCarron's Christmas Pie

From cosy pubs to sparkling rooftop bars — the Bite team is gathering plenty of seasonal inspiration. Whether you’re planning comfort food, cocktails, or a winter escape, here are some highlights to spark your own plans.

Where Team Bite Ate This Week

  • Mrs Bite and Eleanora revisited an Edinburgh favourite: Kampong Ah Lee - perfect food for this cold weather

  • Comfort food and cocktails at The Bonnington Pub - try the Haggis Bon Bons with a cheeky dash of HP sauce.

  • Kerry, The Social Bitches and Mrs Bite were all invited for festive drinks at Lamplighters, Gleneagles . It was lovely to mingle with all the staff and to meet the new chef - Ewan Hill who is completely dedicated to sourcing the best local, Scottish produce for The Spence.

  • Kirsty & Bronwyn enjoyed the beautiful Tollhouse - the Butternut Squash Risotto sounds lush.

  • Tracy Griffen visited the new Brown's of Leith and had a slice of Civerino Pizza.

On the Grapevine

  • Bon Vivant announced on Instagram that they are closing — farewell to a much-loved spot that helped shape Edinburgh's cocktail scene.

  • Mimi's Bakehouse at The Shore is closing but three of the women behind it - sisters Gemma Clearie, Ashley Phillips and Natalie Togher - are opening a pan-Asian restaurant in its place called Nami. The name means 'feminine wave'.

Reservations

  • Some of the Bite team are heading to Pizza Posto (reviewed by Anne Pia in November).

  • Mr & Mrs B are planning a pre-Christmas break at The Cairndale Hotel & Spa, Dumfries — recently crowned winner at the UK Good Spa Guide Awards in London, ahead of runners-up One Spa (Edinburgh) and The Spa at Gleneagles (Perthshire).

  • They’ll also be visiting The Lovat, Fort Augustus, dining at Station Road with Chef Sean Kelly at the helm.

  • Also to KUBA which we reviewed earlier this year
