Doors to the popular Milnes Bar are open again ready to delight Edinburgh pubgoers as it marks the next chapter in its long history thanks to a six-figure investment.

The Belhaven pub on Hanover Street has retained all its natural character and charm during the recent works while some modern-day comforts have been added for today’s discerning pub customers.

Once a popular haunt for poets and arts students in the 20th century, the bar has a new look inside and out to welcome locals and tourists alike wanting to soak up its traditional Scottish welcome in style. The famed ‘Lonely Poet’s Chair’ has pride of place in the Hanover Street Bar while the most has been made of the antique feature of the Kremlin room, so named for its political debates that once took place there.

New signage, lighting, and outdoor furniture have boosted the pub’s kerbside appeal, while the inside has new and refreshed flooring, booth seating and furnishings, lighting, décor and curated artwork. The toilets have also been refurbished.

Susan Power, general manager of the Milnes Bar said:

“This bar is a real gem in the city centre and it’s great to be open again for everyone to enjoy our new, enhanced look and feel. It’s still full of the all the history and character but with those extra special features to really add to the Milnes Bar style and experience. It’s lighter and brighter with a new layout for customers to relax and enjoy their drinks and dining. We are here for all occasions, whether you want a leisurely lunch, an afterwork drink with colleagues or to rest weary legs after a day visiting the city’s sights. Day and night, we have quality food and drinks to suit all appetites and diets in a wonderful setting. Our Sunday roasts are something to behold so book early to avoid disappointment. Come in and enjoy our Milnes Bar welcome and hospitality.”
