If you’re looking for the perfect Christmas cocktails to end a festive office day out, impress visiting friends or celebrate with your favourite people, I’ve got just the spot. Head to 56 North on West Crosscauseway, get yourself warm and comfy in one of their booths, and browse their cocktail menu.

56 North has over 400 gins and a dedicated South Loch Distillery producing its own spirits right inside the venue. There are two 50L copper pot stills in the bar.

I couldn’t resist the Dark Chocolate Orange Negroni - not a hard sell, as I’m a big Negroni fan, but chocolate orange… come on, how could I say no? It’s made with Mozart Dark Chocolate, South Loch Spiced Gin, sweet vermouth and dehydrated orange. The cocktail is surprisingly light, with just a little kick of spice and gentle chocolate sweetness.

Next, I chose the Ember Old Fashioned to contrast the freezing weather outside. This warm concoction features Monkey Shoulder, Ardbeg Wee Beastie 5 Year, honey syrup, black walnut and flamed dehydrated orange. There was definitely some magic at play - the drink looked almost transparent despite the golden whisky inside. The smokiness of the Ardbeg was beautifully balanced by the sweetness of the honey.

If I’d had more time, I would have happily dived into the boozy hot chocolate made with Bacardi Spiced Rum (infused with vanilla and nutmeg).

Whether you’re a Negroni devotee, a whisky lover, or just after a warming hot chocolate, 56 North blends its distillery heritage with festive creativity. And if you’re not into booze, worry not - the cocktail menu includes a wide selection of mocktails and alcohol-free drinks.
