Updated: Apr 8

Matthew Jukes

Matthew Jukes is quite possibly the most knowledgeable person on the planet when it comes to Australian wine - and he will be in Edinburgh sharing top picks from the 20th anniversary of his 100 Best Australian Wines Report at a unique one-day tasting festival hosted by Wine Events Scotland in March.

With a career spanning more than three decades, Jukes is a UK wine writer who publishes several highly respected annual reports, including the internationally renowned 100 Best Australian Wines Report.  Jukes tastes more than 4,000 Australian wines every year, from which he selects his top 100.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of his Australian Wines Report, Jukes is teaming up with Wine Events Scotland in a brand-new festival celebrating the very best Australian wines. The festival takes place on Saturday 23rd of March in the glittering main hall of The Edinburgh Academy on Henderson Row.

‘I am incredibly excited to bring my 100 Best Australian Wines Festival to Edinburgh,’ says Jukes.  ‘I have tasted a phenomenal number of Aussie wines to whittle down to the very finest for my latest Report and, believe me, Australia produces some of the most exquisite fine wines on earth.’
 He continues,
‘With more variety of style than you could imagine, I cannot wait to pour the wines for you! I guarantee you are in for an epic treat.’

‘Matthew is recognised the world over as an expert in Australian wines and he has some amazing wines to introduce,’ says Diana Thompson, Wine Events Scotland founder. ‘It’s a walk-around tasting, so visitors can sample the wines and ask questions from experts there on the day.  Matthew will be mingling with guests and hosting two of the exciting masterclasses.  For these, he’s digging deep in the cellar to bring out some older vintages of previous 100 Best winning wines.’

The tasting comprises 54 of Matthew’s favourite wines from all corners of Australia. These range from great-value, everyday-style, bottles to fabulous fine wines. The average RRP of wines being shown and tasted is more than £30, and the selection includes wines from £7 to £125 a bottle.

100 Best Australian Wines Festival with Matthew Jukes, The Edinburgh Academy, Henderson Row, Saturday 23rd March 2024, from 12-3 pm or 4-7 pm: tickets from £32, masterclass tickets, £10, available from www.wineeventsscotland.co.uk.
