Paradise Palms has landed with a bang. Imagine all the glitter, colour and cabaret of Priscilla Queen of the Desert colliding with fresh flavoursome Mexican street food and a killer cocktail list.

Owner/Partner Trystan has returned from Sydney bringing the quality and flavours characteristic of that city's cuisine to an informal Edinburgh bar setting along with a healthy dollop of Oz irreverence. 
The result is a quirky venue featuring cabaret, a polished food and drink offering and excellent service. 

The first thing I noted was the cocktail list and Trystan explained there will be a different flavoured frozen margarita each day with e.g. seasonal flavours like blackberry and nettle planned for the Autumn.  He had me nailed right there but the launch night afforded further opportunities to taste superbly balanced negronis. Served in a very busy setting (these guys know how to throw a party) they were sipped and appreciated by me and fellow Bite contributor The Go Between

We also sampled the menu in canapé form and everything was tasty and exciting.  Tacos are freshly made on the premises and served in pairs with various fillings such as shredded chicken, chorizo, Thai crab cake, sweet chilli, halloumi, sticky sesame beef, green seed salad, toasted peanuts (£6 a pair, £10 containing two side dishes).

There are specials and bar and diner classics too,  demonstrating that the menu is not afraid to deviate from the Mexican street food theme; so club sandwiches and smoky chipotle mac 'n' cheese give a nod to the USA and Scotland respectively. The Go-Between visited for lunch and reported that the Cajun fish fry was “particularly good". Desserts of fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches and gooey brownies are sure to delight. 

The food and drinks menus at Paradise Palms reflects the ethos of this Dive Bar which is more 'tude than script.  Let the good times roll. (S. Wilson)
