Bite Review ......
“It's like the sky arriving"

So says Oscar, one of the directors of Suki Tea, referring to a delivery of Earl Grey Blue Flower.

I am in Belfast and have made this tea company one of my first ports of call. Scanning the vast range of teas I don't think I have ever seen a more beautiful colour than that of the Earl Grey Blue. It is a deep, bright, vibrant Indigo and so pretty that Oscar's fellow director used it as confetti at her wedding.

Having sampled Belfast Brew, Apple Loves Mint and a few others I have been very impressed. The latter has all the juicy tartness and comfort of apple pie. It is caffeine free and whole baby rosebuds adorn the loose tea leaf mix.

Apple Loves Mint proudly displays the Great Taste Gold sticker as does Belfast Brew, Jasmine Phoenix Dragon Pearls, Breakfast Tea, Peppermint, Green Roobios Citrus, Earl Grey Blue Flower and Lemongrass and Ginger Twist. The latter has an explosion of different flavours on the palate; juicy lemon followed by hot ginger and then lingering liquorice.

They don't just taste good. Four Suki Teas are also triple certified, that is, organic, fair-trade and Rainforest Alliance Certified. These are Darjeeling, Chamomile, Earl Grey Blue Flower, and Green Tea Luponde.

Oscar shows me the machine use for blending the Earl Grey Blue Flower along with a large and very expensive bottle of organic Bergamot. The blending room smells divine and as I wander amongst the gigantic parcels of tea my nostrils are alerted by fleeting aromas be they spicy, citrus or mint. I am currently enjoying the smoky, autumnal Russian Caravan as I write this wee piece. I would recommend crumpets dripping with butter as the ideal partner.

I like the calming ritual of making a nice pot of tea and the Suki teapots and trays are conducive to this. The tray is made from sustainably sourced bamboo and has a neat little seat for your teapot and milk jug.

There are some beautiful ideas for Christmas presents on the website and local stockist include Earthy Foods.
