Bacco Wine online

By Eleonora Vanello This wine bar/merchant in Dundas Street used to organize quite popular wine tastings.  As COVID-19 hit and our community sprang into action, the hashtag #WineWednesday started to trend.  Bacco Wine owner, Valerio Lo Coco spotted an opportunity for online tastings. Things had been bumpy for the retailer for a few years. Valerio specializes in Italian, biodynamic and organic wines. But despite the popular tastings, his premises in Dundas Street didn't always get the footfall it deserved.  So thought Valerio why not take the wine to peoples homes. Who wouldn't love a wine delivery accompanied by an informative talk while you sip on your sofa?  I signed up to the online tasting on the Facebook page via Eventbrite. I was transported to Central Italy for my Wednesday night tasting. I swirled three white wines (Pecorino, Verdicchio, Vermentino) and three red wines (Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Chianti Colli Senesi, Bolgheri DOC).  The £20 booking fee includes 6 wines samples,  delivered in mini-glass bottles (Edinburgh city centre only, a charge of £5 for outside Edinburgh) and a Zoom presentation. You also receive a very informative booklet by email.  Valerio has plans for tasting wines from the South of Italy and Portugal and the South of France are also lined up.  Bacco Wines also offers private online tastings. I truly enjoyed the experience; being surrounded by people who share my passion and tasting excellent wines reminded me of the life before COVID-19 Keep an eye on Facebook for up-to-date info.
