Mimi’s Bakehouse moves into City Art Centre serving up a tasty new partnership for Edinburgh

Edinburgh’s much-loved family bakery has taken up residency within one of the city’s leading contemporary art exhibition spaces, The City Art Centre. Opening on 6th November, the team behind the hugely popular Mimi’s Bakeries, restaurants and cafes create a tasty new space in the café of the ground floor of The City Art Centre, providing visitors with award winning baked goods and savoury bites to sustain the hungriest art enthusiast.

The hugely popular café will operate as a pop-up service from the 6th November through to the end of the year before closing temporarily in January 2019 for a refurbishment.  After which the recognisable Mimi’s Bakehouse will take up permanent residency at The City Art Centre.

The City Art Centre champions historic and contemporary Scottish art, showcasing work across five floors with a richly diverse exhibition programme featuring work from acclaimed international and Scottish artists alongside emerging talent.

The new venture is the fourth unit in the city for the family run bakery, joining the constantly bustling Mimi’s Bakehouse on The Shore and in Corstorphine and The Little Bakehouse on The Canongate. The new café will be serving up locally roasted coffee, Eteaket Tea, all day brunch, hot lunch specials, soups, sandwiches and of course cake! Including Mimi’s award-winning scones as well as traybakes, cupcakes, brownies and more.

The City Art Centre
The City Art Centre is one of Edinburgh’s main public art galleries. It is owned and managed by the City of Edinburgh Council. It is home to the City’s collection of historic and contemporary Scottish art, one of the best in the country. The gallery hosts a vibrant programme of exhibitions from its collection and by contemporary local, national and international artists and makers.Mimi’s Bakehouse

Mimi’s Bakehouse first opened it’s doors in November 2010 but the concept has been baking for generations. Mimi’s Daughter Gemma is now the fourth generation of bakers in the family and the passion shows no sign of slowing down. An old and bashed book sits in a secret location bursting with clippings and guarded family recipes, its pages learnt cover to cover but its contents still treasured. Mimi’s is a product of  family history and it is this that gives us the knowledge to innovate and create as we look to the future. We are incredibly proud that Mimi’s is a family business, it is the essence of what we do, it provides us our passion and creates the warmth we hope you feel when you visit!
