Bowhouse Food Weekend to highlight the harvest season in Fife


Bowhouse Food Weekend, taking place this weekend (23rd to 24th September), is a celebration of the quality produce, including those made from local ingredients grown in Fife farms and fished off nearby waters. 

Free to attend, the two-day event will showcase the abundance of produce the harvest season brings in the East Neuk. It introduces the people who create award-winning produce using time-honoured techniques, innovative collaborations and recipes, adapted to inspire lovers of great food and drink.

Hosted in a beautifully restored barn, the market is designed not only to be an enjoyable shopping experience, it will also host regular tastings, talks and demonstrations from chefs and producers. Children's activities, as well as information on local walks, will give families an opportunity to explore the local area and have a full day out. 

Meanwhile, a selection of the farm's animals and views of the farming countryside around the barn will leave visitors in no doubt of Fife's rich heritage of food production.

The event will also have a street food space where visitors can tuck into freshly prepared fare including grilled langoustines, piping baked potatoes and, for the early morning shoppers, bacon rolls.

Toby Anstruther, founder of Food from Fife and organiser of the event, said "Our vision of creating a well-designed space for makers to produce locally sourced food and grow their businesses is, without doubt, taking shape. The Bowhouse Food Weekend is an opportunity for food lovers to meet with the makers and gain an understanding of Fife's rich heritage of producing wonderful food with undoubted provenance."

Special guests include the Fife Beekeepers Association and the event has the support of the SRUC and the Anstruther Improvements Association.

Clement Boucherit, owner of Langoustine The Box, which now has a permanent home at Bowhouse, said "The first Bowhouse Food Weekend was incredible - we were so busy and the feedback was so positive. Clearly people are looking for new foods to try and they love the opportunity to speak to the producers.

"What has been heartening is to see the number of pople who have ordered online after the first event - it is a new audience which is great for our business."The event takes place on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm.
