The Sunday Times Food List

Scotland is home to six of Britain's best restaurants according to The Sunday Times Food List, to be published this weekend (November 3). The list of the top 100 restaurants is compiled by The Sunday Times in association with Harden's. It is now in its fourth year, and is based on 80,000 reviews from 9,000 consumers, 2,000 of which are Sunday Times readers.

Scotland's six restaurants include four in Edinburgh, making it the city with the most restaurants in The Food List outside of London. There are three restaurants which featured in the 2012 top 25: Andrew Fairlie in Gleneagles, and Edinburgh's Restaurant Martin Wishart and The Kitchin, which is the only establishment in the top 100 to specialise in Scottish cuisine, with a signature dish of pig's head and langoustine. The Honours in Edinburgh is a new entry to the list, while The Peat Inn, in Fife, re-enters, after featuring last in 2011.

The restaurants range from some of the most expensive, to the cheapest on the overall Food List. Andrew Fairlie, at £131 per head is in the top ten for price, while The Honours (£54) is among the ten cheapest eateries featured.

Editor of The Sunday Times Food List, Karen Robinson, said: "The Food List is essential reading for food lovers. It's a fantastic achievement for chefs to make it into our top 100, because our scores are based on the opinions of thousands of diners, mostly spending their own money. This makes the Food List an unbiased and definitive guide to the finest restaurants in the country."

The full top 100, including rankings and overall score will be revealed in The Sunday Times Food List on November 3. The Food List exemplifies The Sunday Times' rich heritage and commitment to investing in its journalism to continue offering readers of its papers world-class, unique and unrivalled content.
