An award winning Indian restaurant is celebrating after receiving national recognition from food inspectors.

Mithas in Leith is the first Indian restaurant in Scotland to achieve two AA rosettes.

Launched 18-months ago in Dock Place, Mithas set out from the beginning to deliver a new high standard for Indian food in the capital, with dishes including Red Mullet Masala, Venison Kebabs and Monkfish Tikka.

“We're thrilled and delighted by the news of the AA accolade," said owner Islam Mohammed. “Critics and customers have been telling us our food is really special but it is great to receive this official recognition. It's important for us to use local produce and support local suppliers and I think that has also played an important part in our success".

The two AA rosettes indicate a special level of excellence and follow last year's success when Mithas was named Best Indian Restaurant at The Scottish Restaurant Awards.
