What is Bite Magazine?
Who knows? Sounds like some other, less awesome magazine. BITEmagazine is one word! BITEmagazine! VERBnoun!
Not Bite Magazine!
Okay, okay. What is BITEmagazine?
BITEmagazine is a new online publication that features short fiction and essay-style articles from writers local to New York City. BITEmagazine runs photographs of the authors alongside their work, partially to enhance and elucidate their pieces, and partially to stand against the current status of writers being artists characterized more by anonymity than by celebrity.
When can I find it? Where can I find it?
The first issue, which was
not online and instead in print, came out in August 2005. It was found in a plethora of business establishments--bars, lounges, bookstores, record stores, etc--in the East Village, West Village, Lower East Side, and Williamsburg.
BITEmagazine was free at these locations.
As of the Winter 2006 issue, BITEmagazine is online-only, and will be for awhile. It's still free. It's longer. We think it's better. It's definitely more sustainable. It's vaguely quarterly.
Who is behind this?
Me. I'm Laura. About me: I'm a 24 year old writer, recent NYU graduate, and publisher of several small 'zines over the past ten years. I'm also a freelance
webdesigner.
Surely you aren't doing this all alone?
Surely I am not. I have turned my talented and brilliant friends into a staff of editors, business advisors, marketing consultants, advertising sales reps, graphic designers, and general cheerleaders.

I want to submit! Will you publish my writing?
Maybe. Please take a moment to read the
guidelines. Then
submit away. The submission deadline for the Spring issue is March 1. All submissions received after that date will be considered for the Summer issue or other following issues.
