Ahoy me hearties

I have visited and reviewed Dogs. Amore Dogs and now Seadogs within the last year and rate them all.

Pushed for time I could only get along for lunch recently but left  looking forward to returning asap for dinner.

I wanted a selection of dishes but the two I chose were so delicious and so filling that it is all I could manage.  First up was trout pate with toast to keep me going whilst contemplating the rest of the menu.  It was a place of delicious brown slop. No need for irrelevant garnish as the flavours spoke for themselves;  big dollop of ultra smooth pate, rustic crunch brown toast and a pool of rhubarb and black pepper jam.  My only criticism would be that I could have done with 3 slices of toast rather than two. There was a lot of pate and jam and another slice of toast would seem sensible.

Next up,  a plate of Cullen Skink. I think you can judge a cook or restaurant depending on how good their Cullen Skink is. This was a plate of hearty, comforting, unpretentious soup. Flakes of yellow haddock, chunks of potato and vegetables went down a treat.

The desserts didn’t really appeal; deep fried chocolate cake and a preponderance of ice cream.  Lots of other lunch-time offerings did such as fish and chips, chickpea, apple and fennel salad, trout sandwich with root crisps. And the dinner menu looked even better, especially the whole baked black sea bream.
I am no longer a seadogs virgin and I look forward to many hours of pleasure sampling the menus.
