Harvey Nichols may not be a place you associate with bargains but this seasonal offer comprising three cocktails and a cocktail for £20 qualifies as a cracker. 

It's always pleasant sitting in the Brasserie admiring the Edinburgh skyline but in Summer the glass frontage and terrace really come good. If any of you are still too shy to have made a booking I urge you to remedy this.  It's a real treat in an unbeatable location. 

The Brasserie food (as opposed to the restaurant) is tasty and comforting but don't be fooled skill is still on show and the produce used nods to local fayre. 

I had a very tasty chicken pithivier to start; chunky, juicy poultry, golden flakes of pastry and lettuce of the old fashioned ilk ie lots of texture and flavour. Lesley opted for mackerel pate which was  nicely presented in a pot and with oatcakes. 

Main courses were hearty. I was particularly pleased that my sea bas had that 'elusive' crispy skin. It was served cleverly with a flavoursome Spanish-style cocido of fat soft chick peas and tomatoes garnished with parsley, crème fraîche and lemon.  Simple but delicious ruled the day. Lesley had a similarly rustic Toulouse sausage which she described as "tasty and firm" and commented that she really liked the 'baked beans' which were more fancy Mexican style with bite rather  than standard tomato. Croutons added a wee crunchy texture. 

Strawberry cheesecake was fluffy and moussy with fresh fruit on top. The star was most definitely the ice cream however, from Stewart's Dairy in Perthshire (strawberry again). It really hit the spot. Lesley had the cheese board with Clava brie, Dunsyre blue, some goats' cheese, quince, grapes and oatcakes. 

Cocktails supped were a 22 Steps and a Hemingway Daiquiri, drinks are reliably good at  Harvey Nichols.
