A full moon in February, spring in the air and a timely visit to this new Café Deli was called for. 

My body indicated it was time to replace winter stodge with an injection of nutritious colourful food and Moon and Hare serves Organic, Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten Free & Raw Food

Unsurprisingly, Moon and Hare is run by a Californian and as fellow Bite contributor the Go-Between is a west coast hippie at heart I knew she would readily agreed to accompany me. 

To start then, a selection of salads for each of us (£2.50).  Fine chopping alongside a clever mix of ingredients, flavours, textures and dressings made these salads easy eating and we both particularly liked the tangy lentils - lemon juice or apple cider vinegar had been added. Top tip.

Next up wraps. For the Go-Between a 'Zesty' comprising hummus, sauerkraut, avocado, mixed sprouts, coriander and lemon zest and for me a 'Tuscan' - cannelloni beans, pesto, sun-dried tomato, mixed olives and spinach (£4.50). Both came warmed and wrapped in brown paper which was very useful because it meant we could each take half home for later.  Portion sizes positively encouraged this. Fresh, vibrant watercress and lettuce garnished these tasty wholesome wraps. 

We were full but enjoying ourselves so decided to shop too. A random recollection of Items on the shelves includes raw chocolate, nut milks, dandelion coffee, banana and hemp granola, sauerkraut, and various crisp breads and biscuits. My purchases were a bit hit and miss. The chestnut crisp breads got the thumbs up whilst the peppermint and hazelnut oatcakes have the rare distinction of joining an extremely short list of foods I actively dislike. 

Back to the café and all the foods and beverages are suitable for people with gluten intolerance and coeliac disease. Reassuringly, as there are no wheat products in the shop or kitchen, the possibility of any of cross contamination is eliminated.

A boon for coeliacs, vegans and vegetarians Moon and Hare kept us couple of meat eaters more than happy also given its fresh adventurous take on healthy food. (S. Wilson)
