What kind of writing is BITEmagazine looking for?
Most concretely, BITEmagazine seeks short fiction and personal-essay style articles. What kind of short fiction? What exactly is a personal-essay style article? Keep reading.

Fiction
If many, most, or all of these adjectives apply to your writing, send it on over:
unusual
funny
interesting
sexy
original
perverse
quirky
sad
funny&sad
silly
wicked
inspired
genuine
weird
inappropriate
absurd
dirty
moving
bilious
beautiful
coherent

Basically, BITEmagazine is looking for fiction that is very good but is not necessarily mainstream--although, clearly, those adjectives can apply to fiction that is more mainstream too. Really, BITEmagazine accepts a wide range of writing. If your stuff is neither genre fiction (this is not the magazine for your vampire stories or your romance novella) nor Chicken Soup for the Soul, and it's excellent, then please submit it.

Okay, what is a personal-essay style article?
Fair question. Think the "My Turn" page in Newsweek. Think most articles in The New Yorker. For articles, BITEmagazine is looking for anything that isn't too journalistic or timely. A witty piece about your opinions, ideas, and experiences regarding a new law? Yes. A few pages detailing the law and why and how it came into existence? Not for this magazine. BITEmagazine wants personal, first-person, opinionated nonfiction. If your article breaks the rules you learned in Journalism 101, then send it over.

Also, please note that BITEmagazine does not accept music, movie, or theatre reviews. An article about your dangerous obsession with a certain band and how it's ruined your life? Sounds good. A discussion of the band's new album? No.

Should I query before submitting?
You can, but you don't have to. If your goal is specifically to write for BITEmagazine and you just want to be told what to write, then by all means, query and we can give you direction. If you have some articles you've written and are just trying to find a home for them, you don't need to ask before sending. Just send.

How do I submit?
Please send your work in a word document or in the document of the email to bite.magazine@gmail.com.

I want to write for BITEmagazine, but I don't want my picture in it, for I am very ugly. Must I have my picture taken? Should I not bother submitting?
Submit anyway. If your writing is so amazingly good that we want to run it without your picture, we will.

Do you publish art/comics/photography?
Not really, but if we come across art/comics/photography that is so perfect for BITEmagazine that we can't resist it and have to publish it, well, we will.
